Practice Charts & Accountability
Accountability is one of the foundations of goal-setting & goal-keeping.
At Oh Suzannah we use monthly practice charts to track daily/weekly practice times.
Each student is encouraged to use a timer, clock, or watch to track how long they practice, and then to write it down every day they practice.
To encourage more effective practice time, here is a great way to break down the daily goal of 30-45 minutes:
5-10 minutes warming up with scales, chords, octaves, arpeggios & chord progressions
10 minutes reviewing recent accomplishments, honing in on expression, tempo control, and accuracy
10-20 minutes working on current assignments, taking time to break it down & work on tough spots and transitions
5 minutes cooling down with your favorite piece or exercises
If you have time & energy for more, that’s when you can work on sight-reading, figuring things out by ear, transposing, composing, and so on!!!
